My review is on the product itself, not the LightScribe technology.

I expect my CD's to come out with 80min max of whatever music I choose every time. This technology should not have many flaws at this stage. And... they don't. I have performed 10 or so burned compilations without fail. Designs are laser etched every time. The CD's do what is expected of them. 5 stars for the CD's though they smudge real easily - cosmetic issue only.

LightScribe is another issue, and while it's my first time using the technology, I expected better.

TIP: I'm sure its a combination of the software to design them and the burner itself, but unless the images used in the design are dark, you won't get a good result.

These discs are pretty to look at, as long as you don't use or handle them. The LightScribe side of the disc is so easily scratched, just wiping it with a cloth can render text unreadable.

When I inserted and ejected the disc in my iMac, the surface had scratch marks all over it from the felt lining used to "wipe" dust off the discs in the drive slot.

Save your money and frustration and just by the regular gold colored LightScribe discs. They do not scratch.

These Verbatim discs are hands down the very WORST blank media I've EVER encountered! They're made by CMC Magnetics -- well known as the worst media manufacturer in the world. But not only are they CMC Magnetics, they're the worst of the worst of CMC Magnetics!

The latest KProbe *hangs* when faced with these, forcing a hard reset. The latest Nero Burning ROM *hangs* when faced with these, forcing a hard reset. The program continues, non-stop, to display "waiting for media" when I use these, and an attempt to abort hangs Windows XP SP2 the same way it hangs Kprobe.

Curiously, the media IDs on these are exactly the same as that on Philips LightScribe CD-R media (they're made by CMC Magnetics as well). However, at least the Philips are recognized by all my software and hardware, quite unlike the Verbatims. That's why I say that these Verbatim are the worst of the worst from CMC Magnetics. (The Philips are no prize, either, but they perform minimally well).

The *ONLY* thing that worked with these media are the LightScribe labeling. But what's the point of labeling discs you can't even RECOGNIZE, let alone burn?

I had the exact same problems with these media in both my Lite-On LH-201AH burner and my NEC ND-2510A burner (the latter is universally recognized as and ideal burner for even low-quality media).

Note that Verbatim had a great reputation when they sold media manufactured by Taiyo Yuden. But, stupidly, they chose to go ultra-cheap and turned to the dreaded CMC Magnetics Corp. Thus, they lost all credibility!

*AVOID THESE LIKE THE PLAGUE!*

There is nothing in particular that I can find wrong with this media. In fact, standalone, the media if great. My problem is being misled by my Amazon.com search. I input a search for labelflash and this media came up; leading me to believe that it worked with a labelflash drive. No. It ONLY works on lightscribe drives. I am only writing this review so that 1) Amazon can change their tagging so others won't be misled and 2) If Amazon does not change their tagging, others will not fall into the same trap that I did.

How to Burn DVD in March
