Most DJ's now days use a variety options to play their music. These include Vinyl, CD and Digital solutions. For those of you who opt for CD's learning how to work with and burn tracks to them correctly is extremely important for a number of reasons.

In fact failure to get this right could cost you dearly.

The reason I know this is because I have made mistakes which meant I had to get my valuable Pioneer CDJ decks fixed on more than one occasion. In fact I had problems twice where by one of my decks failed during live sessions (a nightmare scenario), to make things worse I had to pay hefty shipping costs to send the turntable off to a specialist in order to get the laser repaired.

The only good thing that came out of the experiences was a long discussion I had with the engineer who replaced the parts and fixed my deck. He told me exactly how I had caused the breakdown by playing CD's that I had burnt incorrectly. Not only that he explained to me the correct things to do which is what I am about to share with you.

Before I go there it does strike me that someone reading this may wonder why legitimate DJ's would be burning music on to CD's. The answer is simple more and more artists and record companies send us music over the internet via file transfer sites such as Dropbox or Mediafire.

Okay so the mistake many DJ's make is that they burn CD's far too quickly for the sake of time. The problem is that errors are recorded on to the disk which your deck has to work hard to correct. As a result you can dramatically shorten the life of your decks laser which is one of the major components.

The solution is to burn any new CD's at the slowest speed possible in order to avoid the problem. Not only should you do this but you should also ensure that whilst burning all other applications on your computer are switched off as this will reduce the potential for errors on your disk even more.

My final tip is too do with the CD blanks you use. I always use expensive branded disks such as Sony or TDK which are individually wrapped. It is tempting to buy cheaper brand names in bulk on a spindle but trust me when I tell you this short term saving could create problems for you down the line.
